The Japanese manufacturer says AI should extend its sensing and control capabilities, while China tests whether those technologies can serve more demanding industrial needs.

Epson is positioning its established industrial-robotics technology for broader applications in China as artificial intelligence reshapes manufacturing. This is a corporate strategy, not a reported new deployment: TMTPost’s account describes no named customer project or scaled rollout.

Epson launched its SCARA robots in 1983 and now offers a portfolio including four-axis and six-axis robots. The company’s emphasis is the difficult final stage of industrial work: sensing small components, controlling force and executing accurate movements quickly.

Its approach combines sensing with control rather than relying solely on mechanical structures. Epson says its GYROPLUS technology supports positioning and stability control, while a separately developed force-sensor system emphasizes high sensitivity, rigidity and integration. Yasunori Yoshino, a director and executive officer of Seiko Epson Corp., summarized the intended role of AI: “AI does not replace our own technologies; it amplifies our strengths.”

China is central to that proposition. TMTPost reports, citing Epson’s official data, that China accounted for 54% of the company’s robotics-business revenue in fiscal 2025. The report also says Epson puts the industrial share of its robotics business at 99%. Those are company- or report-attributed figures, rather than independently verified market measurements.

Epson describes China as a testing ground for “engineering-based intelligent manufacturing,” where manufacturers want high efficiency, reliability and lower total costs across procurement, operation and maintenance. The LA-A series, launched for the Chinese market, is presented as an example of adapting products to Chinese needs instead of selling only standard models.

The practical next step is clearer customer evidence: which Chinese manufacturers use the LA-A series, and whether it produces measurable gains in production or maintenance.
